Hachiko Talks About Saluki
I’m Hachiko, and on my website where I introduce dog breeds, today we meet one of the oldest and most graceful of them all: the Saluki.

Salukis are an ancient breed art and carvings of these slender hounds date back thousands of years to ancient Egypt and Persia. They were prized by kings and hunters alike for their speed, endurance, and beauty.

Elegant and athletic, Salukis have long legs, a lean frame, and silky fur either smooth or feathered on the ears and tail. But it’s their spirit that truly stands out: quiet, dignified, and deeply loyal to their people.

Salukis are independent thinkers. They are not the type of dog that follows commands just to please you must earn their trust. Gentle, patient training works best, always respecting their sensitive nature.

They are natural runners built for chasing game across open land. A secure area where they can run safely is ideal. Long daily walks are important too, to keep them both fit and happy.

Health wise, Salukis are generally very healthy and long-lived, but their slim build means they need soft bedding and care during cold weather. Watch for heart conditions or thyroid issues as they age.

Litters typically have 4 to 8 pups. Saluki puppies are alert, curious, and graceful even at a young age. Early socialization is key to helping them grow into well adjusted adults.
