Hachiko Talks About Newfoundland
I’m Hachiko and today, I’d like to introduce a dog as big as a bear and as gentle as a lullaby: the Newfoundland.

Originally from the harsh coasts of Newfoundland, Canada, this breed was born to work pulling nets, rescuing drowning sailors, and braving freezing waters. Strength runs through their bones. But kindness? That lives in their heart.

Newfoundlands are giant dogs heavy, broad, and covered in thick, water resistant coats that come in black, brown, gray, or Landseer (black & white). Their paws are webbed, and they’re natural swimmers. Some even call them “gentle lifeguards.”

But it’s not just their swimming that saves people. It’s their soul. Newfies are known for their calm, patient, and deeply affectionate nature. They’re amazing with children like living teddy bears who watch over the family. They rarely bark, but always pay attention.

These dogs are smart and eager to please, but they grow fast and big, so early training and socialization is essential. Their sheer size requires structure not fear, but calm leadership.

They don’t need intense workouts, but they do need daily walks, space, and love. Their thick coat requires regular grooming, especially during shedding seasons.

Health wise, they’re prone to hip dysplasia, heart conditions, and heat sensitivity. These gentle giants do best in cool climates and with families who understand their slow, steady rhythm.

Litters usually have 6 to 10 puppies chunky little fluffballs with eyes full of kindness.

Today, I, Hachiko, had the joy of introducing this quiet protector a dog whose heart is just as large as its paws.
