Hachiko Presents: A Talk with the Van Cat
Today, I took a walk by the shores of Lake Van. Cool breeze, soft ground beneath my paws... and then I saw something glowing in the sun. A snow white cat, walking like royalty. One eye as blue as the sky, the other golden like honey. I had to say something.

Hachiko: “Hey there, beautiful! Those eyes… wow. One blue, one amber? Who are you? Mind introducing yourself?”

Van Cat: “My name is Van Cat. I come from the eastern lands of Türkiye, near Lake Van. My fur is white as snow sometimes I have a bit of color on my head or tail, but it’s rare. What truly makes me stand out are my eyes. We Van Cats are known for having one blue and one amber eye. It’s not a trick it’s in our genes.”

Hachiko: “Incredible! What about care? Do you need a lot of grooming?”

Van Cat: “Not really. My coat is semi-long, soft, and doesn’t shed too much. A gentle brush once a week keeps me looking sharp. I’m active, playful, and very curious. I don’t like being left alone all day I enjoy human company, but I also need my space. I’m no lap cat, but I’ll sit beside you… if I like you.”

Hachiko: “Noted. What about food? Do you like milk?”

Van Cat (laughs softly): “Milk? That’s a myth. Most of us cats can’t digest lactose it upsets our stomachs. I need high quality dry food, and I enjoy wet food too. Fresh water at all times is a must. I do love a bit of plain chicken or fish, as long as it’s not salty.”

Hachiko: “Let’s talk kittens. Do you raise big families?”

Van Cat: “In spring, my instincts kick in. I usually give birth to 3 to 5 kittens. They’re mostly white like me, and their eye colors are always a surprise. I need a calm, secure space to give birth no noise, no stress. I care for my kittens myself until they’re old enough to explore.”

Hachiko: “And if a family with kids wants to adopt you?”

Van Cat: “I can get along with children if they respect me. I don’t like being grabbed or chased. But with gentle kids, I can be playful and sweet. I like to choose when and how we interact. I'm not a toy I’m a companion.”

Hachiko’s Final Word
Today, I met a cat who’s more than her striking eyes. The Van Cat is graceful, proud, and independent. She needs love, yes but more than that, she needs respect. If you can offer both, she’ll give you loyalty and mystery in return.
