Hachiko Talks About the Border Collie
Hey, my friend. It’s me again, Hachiko. Today, let me tell you about a dog that I really admire: the Border Collie.
This breed comes from the border region between Scotland and England. That’s where the name comes from. Shepherds in the hills needed a dog that was smart, quick, and could handle tough work. So over generations, they bred the Border Collie into what it is today: one of the smartest dogs in the world.
And when I say smart, I mean it. These dogs can learn hundreds of commands. They can read a shepherd’s whistle from far away and move a whole flock of sheep with just a look and a few steps. It’s amazing to watch.
Physically, they’re medium-sized, athletic, and fast. They have sharp eyes, often called a “herding gaze.” Their coat can be smooth or rough, with colors like black and white, red, or even blue merle.
Border Collies are full of energy. They need lots of exercise and mental work every day. Without it, they can get bored and even a bit mischievous. You can’t just leave them in the backyard. They need a job, whether it’s herding, agility training, or playing complex games.
Health wise, they’re pretty strong, but you should watch out for hip dysplasia and eye problems. A good diet with high-quality protein and healthy fats helps keep them in top form.
As for pups, Border Collie litters usually have 4 to 8 puppies. They’re bright from the start. Early training is important, and trust me, they’ll learn fast. You just have to keep up with them.
One more thing. These dogs love to bond with their humans. They’ll follow you everywhere. But if you don’t give them enough time and attention, they’ll find their own “projects,” like herding your kids or chasing cars. So be ready.
That’s the Border Collie. Smart, loyal, and always up for a challenge. If you can match their energy and mind, you’ll have one amazing friend.
